Seconds Out

IF Jon-Lewis Dickinson can win the Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light on July 3 it will jump start his pro career and lead to a British cruiserweight title eliminator.

After eight victories on the bounce, culminating in a pounds 30,000 pay night for the winning Prizefighter at Bethnal Green, Dickinson tasted his first defeat against Tyrone Wright and then suffered a smashed jaw when fighting Richard Turba last time out in September."Jon has travelled to get the best sparring and he's feeling really good."Dan said that he met Denny's son while he was in Paris.Dolan is six years older than his opponent at 31. He's had 18 fights, winning 14 of them, but is desperate to get another crack at a meaningful national title which means defeating Dickinson. The former Commonwealth Games gold medallist drew and lost to Rob Norton for the British and Commonwealth cruiser titles, and then in his last fight retired in the sixth against Terry Dunstan for the English crown. He described the trip as "an amazing experience'' and added: "My favourite bit was when we were coming down through the tunnel and I let go of the brake."However, everything is fine now and this will be a learning curve for him. He's desperate to get off to a winning start."CAPTION(S):Although there were slight changes from the 1947 route due to the introduction of Autobahns, Dan followed Denny's original journey very closely. A final total is not yet known and it is still possible to give to the cause. The system was first targeted on Saturday afternoon at East Boldon, in South Tyneside. Trains were cancelled between East Boldon and the Stadium of Light from 2.30pm until 6pm due to missing cable. On Sunday, 100m of cable was taken from Percy Main, in North Tyneside.Yvonne also suffers from the disease but is not in a wheelchair.
